Originally commissioned through the generosity of Peter and Eliza Little—of nearby Fort Rosalie Mansion—this extraordinary bluff-top estate was constructed between 1849 and 1852 as the official residence of Methodist ministers and remains a rare surviving example of ecclesiastical architecture from the period.

Positioned above the river, the home was described upon completion in 1852 as a “spacious and well-proportioned mansion, overlooking the sweep of the Mighty Mississippi River for many miles, a distinction that remains unchanged more than 170 years later. The residence showcases classic Greek Revival antebellum design with a raised basement, grand proportions, and a stately portico with Doric columns, creating both architectural presence and functional elegance.

According to longstanding family tradition, the large mirror housed in the front parlor was concealed on the adjacent grounds of Fort Rosalie during the Civil War for protection.
