Jumeirah Golf Estate Gyms

Finding a decent gym shouldn't be complicated, but in some neighbourhoods, they can be either too crowded or have equipment that's seen better days. Jumeirah Golf Estates manages to avoid most of these problems – when you're building a premium community, cutting corners on essential amenities isn't an option.

Viya Fit at the Country Club

Viya Fit at the Country Club is where most people start. It’s right there in the clubhouse, impossible to miss, and probably gets the most foot traffic. The equipment includes Matrix machines, free weights, and enough cardio equipment that you’re not waiting around. Classes run from 6am onwards – over 40 each week, covering everything from Les Mills to HIIT – with the early morning Pilates getting a regular crowd who never miss a session. The 3,000 square foot gym floor has plenty of space between the 30+ machines, so no one has an excuse to be in anyone’s way.

The 25-metre lap pool connects directly to the gym, which is handy if you want to swim laps after lifting weights. There’s also a steam room and sauna in the changing area, popular with post-class regulars. Parking is never an issue here, unlike some of the smaller places. The changing facilities are what you’d expect from a country club. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s reliable and convenient.

TBD Fitness

TBD Fitness has developed quite a following since it opened in the Al Andalus mall. The BoxFit classes are genuinely challenging – not the kind of thing you can sleepwalk through. With sessions capped at 20 people, the instructors have energy and can see what everyone’s doing. The functional training rigs get heavy use, and the music is loud enough that you forget you’re in a shopping centre. There’s something appealing about the community built here, and you need to book ahead for popular sessions.

They offer unlimited monthly packages, weekend skill workshops, and a loyalty scheme for long-term members. The ice bath is a nice touch after any workout – great for reducing muscle inflammation from intense sessions.

Atlas Power

Atlas Power has good equipment and a straightforward layout without overcomplicating things. The squat racks and Olympic platforms are proper kit – no flimsy equipment here. The garden terrace is probably the nicest feature, especially during cooler months when outdoor yoga and mobility sessions feel perfect.

The gym runs open gym hours from 6am to 10pm and offers strength-based group classes four evenings a week. They include two complimentary PT sessions when you join, which is useful for getting your bearings. The space can feel a bit empty during quieter periods, but that also means you get the equipment you want when you want it.

Pure Motion

Pure Motion is the premium option. With eight Balanced Body reformer machines and class sizes limited to six, you get individual attention rather than being lost in a crowd. The weekly schedule covers reformer Pilates and barre, plus the more niche offerings like sound healing and breathwork. The space itself is calm and uncluttered, though that also means it can feel a bit precious if you’re used to more casual gym environments.

They also offer private sessions and duet classes for more personalised guidance. Limited class times can be frustrating if you have a tight schedule, but the quality experience from the trainers makes it worthwhile for those serious about their practice.

LiveFit

LiveFit appeals to people who want structure without intensity. The trainers spend time figuring out what you’re trying to achieve rather than pushing a standard programme. Sessions are never more than eight people at a time, and the trainers update your plan monthly based on how you’re progressing. The functional approach using TRX and kettlebells makes sense for people who want to feel better in daily activities rather than train for anything specific.

Monthly assessments and mobility screenings are included with every package, and their “move better, feel stronger” philosophy is something they live by. The space is smaller but that creates a comfortable atmosphere that works better than larger, busier gyms.

Most people will try two or three of these gyms before finding their fit. The variety works in your favour – if TBD's energy feels overwhelming one month, Atlas Power's quieter approach might suit you better the next. Having options within a ten-minute drive means you can actually experiment without committing to lengthy contracts across the city.
