New Attractions in Abu Dhabi
There's a quiet confidence to Abu Dhabi, a city that doesn't rely on spectacle to make its mark. Instead, it allows its history and character to speak for itself. Decades ago it was a coastal community along the Arabian Gulf, today it remains deeply rooted in its heritage while evolving into a modern capital that enriches the lives of the 1.5 million people who call it home.
The city has set ambitious plans. By 2030, Abu Dhabi aims to welcome 39.3 million annual visitors, a substantial increase from the 24 million recorded in 2023. This vision is simply not about numbers – it's about creating meaningful experiences, spaces, and cultural landmarks that reflect the emirate's core values and resonate with a global audience.
As it continues to grow, Abu Dhabi prepares to introduce new attractions that will contribute to its ongoing narrative – a story shaped by deep respect for its past and a clear-eyed vision for its future. Here's a closer look at what awaits in this remarkable city.
Zayed National Museum
The Zayed National Museum is scheduled to open in 2025 to honour the life and legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The building's design, inspired by the silhouette of falcon wings, will stand tall on Saadiyat Island, reflecting the core values that defined the nation's founder – foresight, wisdom, and a deep connection to the land.
Inside, visitors will see how the UAE grew from its early days to the present. Personal items belonging to Sheikh Zayed will help tell this story, illustrating how his leadership gained global recognition and positioned the country on the map. The museum brings together historical artifacts, photographs, and memories capturing inspiring moments that defined the UAE's remarkable rise.
Guggenheim Abu Dhabi
Also opening in 2025, the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will be a significant addition to Saadiyat Island's Cultural District. Frank Gehry's 42,000-square-metre museum will create an impressive presence on the shoreline, its metallic surfaces catching the Gulf light.
The museum will display contemporary art from different cultures and viewpoints. Artists from the Middle East, Asia, and beyond will share their interpretations of common themes, showing how art speaks across borders. Gehry's design turns light and space into artistic forms of their own, making each visit through the galleries feel like a fresh discovery.
Public Art Abu Dhabi Biennial
From December 2024 through April 2025, Abu Dhabi will become an open-air gallery during its first Public Art Biennial. Already, hints of what is to come have been shared, an installation of mirrored columns by Olafur Eliasson captures the desert light near Qasr Al Hosn, while local artist Shaikha Al Mazrou's abstract steel sculptures are set to create moments of beauty in neighbourhood parks.
For six months, art will appear throughout public spaces. Both local and international artists will show their work, giving familiar places new meaning. From downtown Abu Dhabi to the historic streets of Al Ain, these pieces will start conversations and add unexpected beauty.
By placing art where people live and work, the Biennial makes creativity part of daily life, connecting the city with artists from around the world.
Harry Potter at Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi
Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi is preparing to introduce one of the most celebrated literary and cinematic series of our time. The setting will bring to life stories that defined childhoods worldwide, taking physical form with precise detail.
From the cobblestone streets of Diagon Alley to the snow-dusted rooftops of Hogsmeade, each detail stays true to the essence of J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world. The iconic Hogwarts Castle will be at the centre of this experience, housing attractions that lead visitors directly into the pages of Harry Potter's story in a personal and unforgettable way.
This addition to Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi is a tribute to the global phenomenon that continues to inspire imagination, now with a home in the UAE.
Liwa Moreeb Dune Festival
The Liwa Moreeb Dune Festival, held in the Liwa Oasis from December 13, 2024, to January 5, 2025, brings together motorsports and Emirati culture. The festival takes place at Tel Moreeb, one of the world's highest sand dunes, where drivers test their skills on the steep slopes.
Between the races, visitors experience authentic desert traditions. Local music fills the air, traditional crafts are on display, and classic Emirati dishes are cooked the old way. The festival shows how the UAE embraces both its heritage and modern sports in the golden desert sands.
Surf Abu Dhabi
Hudayriyat Island will soon have perfect waves every day of the year. The new wave facility, designed with professional surfers, will be one of the world's most advanced. Its technology can generate everything from gentle swells ideal for beginners to powerful barrels that could challenge even Kelly Slater. The waves remain consistent and adjustable, making it an excellent spot for local talent and international athletes to perfect their skills.
Beyond the surf, the facility offers more than waves alone. Beach cafés and relaxation spots give friends and family a place to spend the day by the calm waters of the Arabian Gulf.
Abu Dhabi builds with clear purpose, each new space thoughtfully designed to honor its past while embracing the future. The result is a prosperous city, rich in culture, and committed to growth that stays true to its character. This capital city has a distinctive story to tell – and it’s one worth experiencing.
