<p>Of legendary provenance, some of Dame Shirley Bassey’s jewellery pieces and watch collection will find their new owners at Sotheby’s upcoming auction in Paris. This is the first time the legendary artist is bringing her jewellery to an auction event, with all proceeds going to her chosen charities.</p> 
<p>Every piece in the auction is symbolic of a particular moment in the singer’s life and, most importantly, a special episode in her career. The collection coming to Sotheby’s auction house in Paris is estimated to be worth around £2 million (AED 9.8 million) and includes a diamond ring gifted to the artist by Sir Elton John.</p>

<p>On the 10th of October, one big spender (as the song goes) will most likely get their hands on Dame Shirley Bassey's diamonds forever. The auction will highlight over seventy pieces spanning various styles, including ruby, sapphire, and diamond parure.</p> 
<p>Each piece is a testament to the artist’s lifelong connection to natural diamonds, as she recently remarked: “All the pieces are meaningful and have a story to tell, whether I bought them for myself or they were gifted to me".</p> 
<p>The collection is a dazzling showcase of both personal history and exquisite artistry. Among the standout pieces is a vintage 1960s Van Cleef &amp; Arpels ring, gifted by Elton John after Shirley Bassey performed at one of his AIDS gala evenings, a piece she cherished and wore on many occasions. Also featured is a ruby and diamond heart parure, discovered during a stopover in Bangkok en route to her first concert tour in Australia. The collection's crown jewel is the emerald parure, purchased to commemorate her Royal Variety performance before the late Queen.&nbsp;</p> 
<p>Sotheby’s expect the emerald and diamond necklace by Van Cleef &amp; Arpels to attract bids from £52,000 to £65,000 (AED 252,026 to 315,015).</p> 
<p>The auction also includes a diamond necklace, expected to fetch between £232,420 and £275,460,(AED 1.1 mil to 1.3 mil), and a Cartier diamond and gold parure, estimated at&nbsp; £215,210 (AED 1mil). Additionally, a yellow diamond ring is anticipated to fetch £172,150 (AED 632,287) alongside an aquamarine, sapphire, diamond, and gem set estimated between £51,640 and £60,250 (AED 251,000 to 291,501).</p>

<p>Considered the American equivalent to the Bentleys and Bugattis that were cruising European roads in the 1920s and 30s, the Auburn Speedster was first unveiled in 1928. The design of the car remained mostly unchanged throughout its production run, with minor variations. This Speedster is from the last year of production, designed by automotive legend Gordon Buehrig. It features a distinctive tapered rear bumper that gave this model the nickname ‘boattail’. Unlike the standard Auburn’s 115 horsepower, the supercharged speedster was boosted to 150 horsepower and has a dual-ratio rear axle that made it equally adept at cruising through the city or along quieter country roads.</p> 
<p>This Speedster has been owned by some of the biggest names in the classic automobile world, starting with Arizona’s Tom Barrett in the 1970s&nbsp; and later by Chuck Spielman in the early 2000s. The current owner acquired it in 2021, and it has been meticulously restored with most of its original components, retaining its beautiful black and red colour scheme.</p>

<p>General Motors launched its ‘companion make’ programme in the early 1920s, which introduced slightly more affordable companion brands for some of its most famous marquee names, including Buick and Cadillac. LaSalle was the companion brand for Cadillac and was in danger of going defunct in the early 1930s – a victim of both changing tastes and a struggling automobile market. Harley Earl, chief designer at GMC, fought to keep LaSalle alive, introducing a newer streamlined design in 1933 that would revitalise the brand and keep it in production until 1940.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> 
<p>This Convertible Coupe is part of the early production run and is a very rare find as the eighth of only 146 that were built, and one of just five surviving models listed in the LaSalle Club Directory. It has been lovingly restored by one of its previous owners with full period-accurate detailing and a stylish grey and dark red colour scheme.</p>

<p>Connecticut manufacturer Locomobile was known for producing well-engineered and beautifully designed cars in what has come to be known as the ‘Brass era’ of automobiles. While not the most stylish vehicles on the road, Locomobiles were steady and reliable performers, which was an extremely important factor for the wealthy buyers that purchased them. The Model 48 is a rare exception to the rule, bearing a sportier look thanks to its three-seater coupe body and a vibrant emerald and yellow finish.</p> 
<p>There isn’t much information about the earliest history of this particular model, but it was part of an extensive collection owned by German aficionados Helmut and Ivone Peitz until it was purchased in 2013 by Terence Adderley. It has been showcased at several events in recent years, but it now spends most of its time on display as part of the award-winning Adderley Collection.</p>

<p>This is a very rare Packard coupe, bearing its original vehicle plate that identifies it as the 38th model produced on the 1507 chassis. Its original owner was reported to be a cousin of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and it passed through two more owners over the decades before landing in the collection of noted car dealer Ervin ‘Bud’ Lyon in 1998. Lyon, who always took great care with the maintenance and restoration of his automobiles, enlisted the services of renowned classic car restorer Chris Charlton to give the Packard its original look and quality.</p> 
<p>In 2009, the vehicle was sold to William B. Ruger Jr., engineer and CEO of the Ruger firearms company. It was through his contacts and a stroke of good fortune that the car, which had long borne a reproduction of its vehicle plate, was reunited with the original.</p>

<p>The Hispano-Suiza is a French automobile that was conceived by Swiss engineer Marc Birkigt, originally produced in Barcelona, Spain. That is where its unique name - a combination of the French word for ‘Spanish’ and ‘Swiss’ - comes from. It is somewhat ironic then that vehicles that were produced in France would become more popular than their Spanish-made counterparts.</p> 
<p>The H6B is a prime example of French craftsmanship, featuring a 135-horsepower six-cylinder engine and a beautiful custom chassis. This model was further customised in London with a design that has echoes of Rolls-Royce. Its origins have been traced back to Kenya in 1954, from where it passed down a succession of owners before landing in the Adderley Collection in 2013. Terrence Adderley, a longtime admirer of the Hispano-Suiza, restored it to its original quality while carrying some hallmarks of its previous ownership, such as smaller tires that were fit during the 1960s. It is a prime candidate for a fresh restoration that would position it to be an excellent competition performer.</p>

<p>Mulliner Park Ward was a subsidiary of Rolls-Royce, created in the early 1960s by folding two independent coachbuilders under the luxury automaker’s banner. Mulliner, which formed one half of that duo, was previously involved in making modified Rolls-Royce coupes using the Silver Cloud chassis. The new subsidiary would go on to produce drophead coupes that featured a dramatic modern chassis design by Vilhelm Koren. Only 101 models were produced, 52 of which were left-hand drive for American delivery. This is one of those rare American models that was delivered in 1965 to car collector and dealer, Donald Cain.</p> 
<p>Originally reported to have been finished in porcelain white with a striking two-tone black and white leather interior, the car eventually came into the collection of Andrew Darling. Darling, a renowned figure amongst car collectors in the Midwest, refitted the car to its current black and red palette. The drophead coupe remained in his possession until his passing, after which it was auctioned by Sotheby’s in 1996. It has been preserved in its restored condition and shows some signs of age, but remains an excellent example of modern Rolls-Royce design and coachbuilding.</p>

<p>The 550 Spyder was the first car Porsche ever made from the ground up to be a racecar. The car took part in some of the 1950s’s most revered racing events, including the Targa Florio, Mille Miglia, 24 Hours of Le Mans, and Carrera Panamerica, where it achieved surprising results against larger rivals from Maserati and Ferrari. The car was called the 550 for its meagre weight of 550 kilograms.</p>
<p>Only 90 examples of the 550 Spyder were built, and the example presented here was one of two cars for Portugal. It is believed to have scored class Podiums at races in Barajas and Monsanto in 1955. The car underwent a thorough restoration in the 1980s by Porsche at Zuffenhausen for a mechanical overhaul, while the original coachbuilder Wendler took care of the exterior. The car remarkably retains its number-matching engine, gearbox, and chassis making it a top choice for any Porsche collection.</p>

<p>The arrival of the DB6 in 1965 left Aston Martin with a handful of unused DB5 chassis built to a shorter wheelbase. Instead of discarding them, the factory decided to build a convertible that combined the sporting proportions of the current car with the DB6’s stylistic features. The result was the incredibly beautiful DB Short-Chassis Volante.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Only 37 were built, making the DB Short-Cassis Volante the rarest convertible series-production Aston Martin in history. It was also the first time the monicker ‘Volante’ – Italian for ‘Flying’ – was ever used on an Aston Martin, a name still displayed on their newer models. The car presented here is an early example and one of only 11 Short-Chassis believed to have been made in left-hand drive form.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Ferrari 275 series was launched in 1964 after the success of the 250 series. They tasked the legendary automotive coachbuilder Pininfarina to design a beautifully aggressive bodywork. The 275GTB/6C was the last car designed with Pininfarina that was supervised by Pinn himself. It was the first road car to feature independent rear suspension that used a double-wishbone and coil-spring setup. The example presented here is considered to be the most desirable configuration of the 275. It features a ‘Long Nose’ Scaglietti body fitted with six Weber carburettors and a torque tube on the transaxle. The car is finished in its factory-correct colour combination of Amaranto over a Beige Conolly leather interior. It was fully restored by Bacchelli &amp; Villa in 2004 and has been certified by Ferrari Classiche in November 2005 and reinspected in May 2024, proving that it retains its matching-numbers engine and transaxle. The car has also won the 2024 Cavallino Modena Platinum Award and is eligible for prestigious events like the Ferrari Cavalcade Classiche, Cavallino Classic in Palm Beach and Abu Dhabi and Rallye des Légendes.</p>

<p>In the late 1990s, Porsche was working on developing a successor to its GT1 prototype for Le Mans which was going to be powered by a 5.5L V10 engine. During the development phase, the FIA changed its rules, which led to the car not being eligible for the races. Instead of shelving the new race car, Porsche sought to make the car suitable for road use and gave birth to the Porsche Carrera GT.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The car was able to hold its own alongside rivals at the time such as the Ferrari Enzo, Mercedes SLR McLaren, and Ford GT.&nbsp; It featured the use of cutting-edge materials such as a carbon-fibre monocoque and sub-frame as well as carbon ceramic brakes. Porsche's engineers pushed the limits of what was mechanically possible to make the car as light and strong as possible. They designed a special three-disc carbon-fibre racing clutch that was 1/3rd the size of a normal clutch and forged magnesium wheels with centre locking bolts for further weight savings. The car was powered by a racing-derived 5.5L naturally aspirated V10 which is considered by many as the best-sounding engine ever made. It was also only offered as a manual with a signature wooden gear knob an iconic feature of the Carrera GT.</p>
