Beyond hosting the American magnate’s fashion collection at the upcoming New York auction, Sotheby’s has also taken the lead in organising other ‘Sydell Miller events’. With a total of three dedicated online sales throughout November and December celebrating and showcasing the full breadth of Miller’s collecting pursuits, Sotheby’s will auction a range of ‘objets d’art’ including paintings by Monet and Picasso, furniture, and jewellery that belong to the late “queen of beauty industry”, Sydell Miller.
The art collection assembled by Sotheby’s is estimated to fetch in the region of $200m during sales this autumn. The cream of the Miller crop is Claude Monet’s Nymphéas (1914-17), estimated to sell for around $60m. The sale will mark the painting’s first time at auction, according to Sotheby’s. A Picasso painting called La Statuaire (1925) is estimated to sell in the region of $30m.

Sydell Miller is the founder of two dominant brands which she created together with her husband, Arnold Miller. A business woman to the core, Miller’s influence, drive, and passion have touched the lives of millions worldwide, serving as an inspiration, and role model to visionary entrepreneurs. In keeping with the Millers’ commitment to “total beauty”, Sydell believed that beauty did not stop at the hairline, so she went on to create the day spa concept, spearheading the movement among salons to offer a total one-stop beauty experience known as “Total Image Consulting”.
Apart from her entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen, Miller turned her focus to philanthropy, art, and design, building the foundation of an extraordinary art collection and serving on the boards of the American Cancer Society of Palm Beach. She owned artworks by Picasso, Chagall, Giacometti, and Lichtenstein, and in 2019 set the record for the most expensive oceanfront home sold in Palm Beach County when her villa – La Rêverie – sold for $111 million.
Mrs. Miller has been featured in Entrepreneur magazine, recognised as one of the “Top 50 Women Business Owners in America,” and honoured with induction into the National Cosmetology Hall of Fame. She passed away on February 25th, 2024 at the age of 86.

Three pieces of clothing from Bessette-Kennedy’s wardrobe are going up for auction and will be on view to the public in Sotheby’s York Avenue Galleries on the Upper East Side of Manhattan from the 5th to 10th of December. The online Fashion Icons Auction opens for bidding in the last week of November and runs until December 17th. 
Bessette-Kennedy gifted these remarkable pieces to her close friend, RoseMarie Terenzio, who was John F. Kennedy Jr.’s executive assistant, publicist, and one of the couple’s closest confidantes during the 1990s. Each garment is reminiscent of the late It Girl’s refined taste, generosity, and timeless appeal. 
The auction debuts with a Prada single-breasted black wool coat Carolyn wore to Bill Clinton's 1997 inauguration, followed by a vintage faux-leopard fur coat, unlabelled, circa 1969. A Yohji Yamamoto black wool jacket she wore to the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Medal event in 1997 is favoured of all three pieces and the most anticipated in the sale event. 
Having been a favourite of Carolyn's, the Prada-Labelled Black Wool Single-Breasted Coat with Belt is believed to be from the Prada Autumn-Winter 1996-97 collection and is expected to fetch around $20,000. A sleek silhouette reminiscent of 1960s-70s design, this coat is one of several variations, such as beige and red tweed, that Bessette-Kennedy wore frequently. 
The Vintage Faux-Leopard Printed Double-Breasted Coat from circa 1969, estimated at $30,000, is one of two leopard print coats Bessette-Kennedy owned. Given that the leopard print trend has seen a resurgence in the Fall 2024 fashion month, the piece is evocative of its era yet stands as a fashion emblem ahead of its time. 
The Yohji Yamamoto Black Wool Double-Breasted Jacket from 1997, estimated to fetch $20,000, is set to be the focal point of the auction. Last October, Sotheby’s magnificent Royal &amp; Noble Jewels Highlights tour arrived in Dubai to dazzle audiences with pieces of royal and noble provenance. Prior to anchoring Dubai, the exhibition travelled across cities like New York and Hong Kong, amongst others, in early October. The tour concluded in Geneva, ahead of Sotheby’s sale auction on the 11th of November. The exhibition showcased some of the most spectacular and historically significant jewels from various aristocratic houses, an event that continues to reinforce Sotheby's legacy of offering highly important Royal collections, as illustrated by the Bourbon-Parma sales in November 2018. 
Sotheby's Bourbon-Parma Family Jewels Auction yielded $53.1 million thanks to Queen Marie-Antoinette's jewels. One piece alone – a special pearl owned by the Queen – broke the world record with a natural pearl sold at auction for $36.2 million. 
It is believed that before her capture and execution, Marie Antoinette carefully wrapped her precious jewels – pearls, diamonds, and rubies – in cotton and sent them in a trunk to Brussels. From there, the jewels made their way to Vienna, where the Austrian emperor, Marie Antoinette’s nephew, safeguarded them. In 1795, he returned the collection to the queen’s daughter, Madame Royale. The pieces later became part of the Bourbon Parma family’s collection, which eventually brought them to auction at Sotheby’s. 
This year’s auction sale in Geneva replicated previous records attained by Sotheby’s, with the entire auction drawing in high figures, in particular, due to a rare and highly Important 18th-century jewel formerly in the collection of the Marquess of Anglesey. 
Rounding off the auction is an extensive selection of jewellery from a noble collection that brings together a dazzling ensemble of pieces from the 19th century onwards. 
 
<h2>Rare and Highly Important 18th-Century Jewel takes centre stage at Sotheby's Royal &amp; Noble Jewels Live Auction in Geneva.</h2> 
One of the rarest diamond necklaces ever to come to auction, this superbly flawless late 18th-century piece weighs approximately 300 carats and made its first public appearance in fifty years. Formerly part of the Collection of the Marquess of Anglesey, the necklace fetched $4.81 million at the Geneva auction. 
Although its exact origins remain a mystery, the necklace is believed to have been crafted just before the French Revolution. In 1937, Marjorie Paget, Marchioness of Anglesey, wore the piece to the coronation of King George VI, a moment immortalised in a portrait by famous photographer Cecil Beaton. Sixteen years later, in 1953, her daughter-in-law donned the same heirloom jewels for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

In 1959, this remarkable jewel was on display in London as part of the Ageless Diamond Loan exhibition, alongside some of the most renowned royal and aristocratic diamond pieces, including the celebrated Williamson Pink Diamond and the brooch adorned with the Cullinan III and IV diamonds from the collection of Queen Elizabeth II. 
In 1979, the jewel was again featured, this time in the American Museum of Natural History’s Bicentennial Exhibition. At the time, stories circulated which claimed that the piece had been crafted in 1776 by Collingwood Jeweller and that it was a gift from George III to the Duchess of Marlborough.

Delahaye was a French luxury automobile maker that began developing high-end racers in 1894 and briefly shifted away from the racing world after the death of founder Emile Delahaye in 1905. In the 1930s, the company made a return to the track and developed what would become its most famous model, the Type 135, which had several variations like the Type 135 MS. This vehicle is one of only two 135 S Works ever produced, and it was driven by Albert Tivo, the renowned French driver who had a long association with Bugatti (and eventually had a model – Bugatti Tivo – named after him). The car has an illustrious racing history: it competed in the 1939 and 1949 editions of Le Mans, was presented at the first Goodwood Members’ Meeting, took Thailand’s Prince Bira to victory at Donington, and had a starring role in a short film where it was piloted by Jude Law. The 135 S Works is eligible for some of the world’s most prestigious events, and could potentially return to Le Mans.

This is one of the rarest Aston Martin models in the world, with only 70 units produced. Additionally, it holds the distinction of being the only model that has a DB4 GT engine fitted directly from the factory. The engine was replaced in 1967 with a standard model but apart from that, there is little information on the car until after 1970. It was sold to an executive at Hewlett Packard a few years later and shipped to the United States, returning to the UK in 1984 for a brief period before eventually making its way back to the States. The current owner of the DB4 acquired the vehicle in 2014 and put it through an extensive restoration process. A GT-specification engine was reinstalled, and the original Midnight Blue exterior and Red Connolly interiors were restored as well. The car will come with the original factory build sheet, photographs taken over various periods of ownership, and a full restoration book detailing the work that was done.

This seemingly humble automobile is one of the most sought-after competition models by MG and packs more of a punch than its diminutive appearance might suggest. Boosted by a supercharged six-cylinder engine, it is seen as the David to many racing Goliaths. Originally commissioned as part of a 3-car team to participate in the Mille Miglia, the K3 had several modifications made to the original design, including a low-mounted exhaust, rerouted fuel lines, and a fog light. Of the three cars that were produced, this is the only one that has retained all of the modifications. Not long after its Mille Miglia run, the car was bought by a noted Australian collector, where it acquired its burgundy colour and a new engine. It participated in several Australian races and was eventually returned to the UK in 1999. While it has undergone restoration work on some of its parts, it’s believed that the body has never been removed or suffered any damage, making this an exceptionally rare find.

One of the newest lots at the auction, this is one of 350 examples that were produced and one of only 12 that were delivered to the UK. The Mercedes SL was modelled on the R230, and for the Black Series, the body was widened by flaring the wheel arches out. The result was an imposing look that was further enhanced by an Obsidian Black finish and a leather interior in Black and Anthracite. The SL 65 AMG already had a hefty engine capable of delivering 612 horsepower, but for the Black Series, this was cranked up to an impressive 672 hp, which was offset by the speed being electronically limited to a maximum of 199 kph. First delivered in July 2009, the car saw steady use until 2017, after which it was rarely out on the road. It was last serviced in June 2024 and it is being sold with a complete history and owner’s guides.

The Phantom V, produced between 1959 and 1968, was sold as a bare chassis on which custom bodies could be built. James Young, one of the most notable coachbuilders to work with Rolls-Royce, designed this model as a traditional touring limousine with some minor modifications to accommodate a larger cabin. It was finished in a two-tone colour scheme of Black and Garnet, with beige leather interiors. The factory model also included air conditioning, radios for front and rear passenger compartments, hydraulically operated seats, silk curtains, and a glassware set. Believed to be the 502nd out of 516 total models produced, it was delivered in 1967 to a Scottish dealer and kept a low profile with little information available about its early ownership. The car did have a long-term owner for a span of two decades until 1999 before changing hands, and was purchased by the Dean Kronsbein Collection in 2014. “Compared with more mature markets like London and Hong Kong, Dubai’s prime real estate market still offers exceptional value for money at approximately $850 per square foot, relative to $4,000 per square foot in Hong Kong. For investors, this translates into a higher quality of life, especially for family living.”&nbsp; 
Beyond attractive investment opportunities, many high-net-worth families move to Dubai in search of a safe and secure living environment. In 2023, the World Economic Forum ranked the UAE as the second safest country in the world, owing to negligible crime rates, robust police infrastructure, and the country’s efficient handling of crises like the COVID-19 pandemic. Chris said: “These prices are excellent when considering the value and quality of the stock reaching the market. However, with demand continuing to outstrip supply, particularly in the top end of the market, we do expect prices to rise further. We’ve already seen a sharp 20% increase in the residential property price index (RPPI) during the first quarter of 2024 alone.”

The watch comes with A. Lange &amp; Söhne Certificate and is estimated to sell for AED 1,745, 000.
Another highlight is a Patek Philippe unique yellow gold split-second chronograph wristwatch with luminous Breguet numerals and hands made in 1947 and adorned with 25 jewels and an 18k yellow gold Patek Philippe buckle, estimated to fetch AED 1,306,908.
A rare entry is a Vacheron Constantin yellow gold mono-pusher chronograph wristwatch made for King Alexander of Yugoslavia in 1927, with an 18k gold case, snap-on hinged cuvette, and back with the crest of King Alexander, offered with Vacheron Constantin Certificate of Authenticity. This lot is expected to sell for AED 436,000.

Even stronger still, home sales above the $25 million mark have soared. In 2023, there were 56 homes sold above this price figure and 27 homes in the first half of 2024 – a dramatic increase from just 2 homes in 2019.&nbsp;
A truly disruptive new recruit operating in the same market is Conor McKay – a broker synonymous with record-breaking transactions. McKay’s recent milestones include the landmark AED 280 million villa sale on Palm Jumeirah and the sale of the largest plot ever in Emirates Hills. McKay started his career in real estate in 2017 and has picked up momentum every year since. In the first quarter of 2024, Conor sold the second and third most expensive villas to date in that period, turning over AED 500 million in the space of three months.&nbsp;

Thanks to the latest advancements in technology, the journey of a diamond can be documented with detailed precision, from the moment it is discovered in the mine, to the cutting and polishing stages and beyond. Electronically mapped, diamonds carry detailed records that culminate in their return from the GIA, complete with certification and ready to be set into a timeless piece of jewellery.&nbsp; 
The two diamonds mined in Botswana meet the highest standards across every critical criterion by which diamonds are judged. D-colour diamonds, these precious stones carry the highest grade for a white diamond. They are certifiably completely flawless, both internally and externally, and have excellent polish and symmetry. &nbsp;Belonging to the rare subgroup known as Type IIa – representing less than 2% of all gem-quality diamonds – these diamonds are the most chemically pure, often exhibiting extraordinary optical transparency. They are free from measurable nitrogen or boron impurities and carry the highest thermal conductivity. Accompanied by two GIA reports dated June 24, 2024, these diamonds have been determined to be Type IIa, reaffirming their rarity and provenance.

Diamonds are the hardest natural substance known to man, 58 times harder than the toughest mineral on Earth. The only material capable of scratching a diamond is another diamond. 
While it is very important to determine the value and pedigree of a diamond, the predominant focus of the industry has mostly been placed on their colour and clarity. However, this reality has shifted in recent years. Driven by consumer demand, significant progress has been made in understanding the provenance of these precious gems. 
The words "provenance," – especially when used in relation to jewellery, or works of art, – leads one to thinksends one thinking about the individuals who owned or wore it. However, there's another important aspect of provenance: the place of origin. 
The heritage of the Botswana diamonds is highly valued. A diamond from Botswana offers an origin story that buyers can believe in, and relate to. 
To uphold the integrity and ethical provenance of its diamonds, ODC – the largest source of guaranteed Botswana diamond production in the market – subjects the gems to rigorous certification processes conducted by third-party organisations. Recently, ODC introduced the Green Star Source Programme, which allows for the traceability of polished diamonds back to their origins in Botswana. 
 
<h2>Botswana Natural Diamonds</h2> 
Botswana is today the world’s number one diamond-producing country by value, thanks to its natural diamonds. The diamond mining in the Southern African country operates under a government licensing agreement, and natural diamonds quickly became the cornerstone of Botswana’s economic development. 
Diamond mining contributes around 30% of the nation's GDP, with the cutting, polishing, and trading of diamonds adding another 5%. 
The Botswanan government established legislation in 2001, stating that at least 40% of all revenue generated from diamond exports be reserved for the benefit of future generations. The remaining funds would go towards investments in the country’s infrastructure, education, healthcare, and social security. 
Botswana's remarkable economic transformation has been largely attributed to the discovery of diamonds, but most importantly, it is the careful management of these rare and precious stones that has truly fuelled the nation's progress.
